Thank you for your email of 18 March 2024 to Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities requesting the 
following information under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
1. Any correspondence to the Ruapehu District Council concerning purchasing property in the 
Teitei development since 1/2/24. 
 
2. Any documents concerning proposed housing developments in the Ohakune area. 
 
Kāinga Ora has considered your request under the Act. We have interpreted the second part of your 
request to be for documents, such as business cases and design plans, for housing developments 
currently proposed or being considered.  
 
In response to part one of your request, I attach email correspondence to the Ruapehu District Council 
regarding purchasing property in the TeiTei development, since 1 February 2024. Some information has 
been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, ‘…to protect the privacy of natural persons.’  
 
In making my decision, I have considered the public interest pursuant to section 9(1) of the Act. I do not 
consider the withholding of the information from this response is outweighed by the public interest in 
making the information available. 
 
Kāinga Ora wil  continue to explore other options available to address the housing shortage in Ohakune. As 
we have only just made the decision to withdraw as master developer of the Teitei Drive development, we 
do not have any other specific plans yet for the region. Therefore, the second part of your request is 
refused under section 18(g)(i), as “the information requested is not held by the department or venture or 
Minister of the Crown or organisation and the person dealing with the request has no grounds for believing 
that the information is held by another department.”
