Thank you for your request of 19 March 2024, to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting
information relating to costs incurred by Fire and Emergency for interisland appliance movements.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) and our response
to each of your questions is below:
1. The total cost of all Interisland Ferry services over the past 5 years (please separate by
year)
2. The cost of all Interisland Ferry services for new appliance allocations over the 2022/2023
financial year*
3. The cost of all Interisland Ferry services for cascading appliance allocations over the
2022/2023 financial year*
Please find attached, as
Appendix 1 to this response, information regarding the total interisland
ferry costs over the past five years (including non-appliance vehicle movements) and a breakdown
of costs of new and cascading appliances over the 2022/2023 financial year.
4. Do FENZ have a policy on Interisland appliance movements for cascading appliances, such
as guidelines to reduce the distances between movements and incidences of the same type
and condition of vehicle moved south/north only for the same type and condition of vehicle
to be moved north/south only a month later.
We do not have a policy on interisland appliance movements. For this reason, it is necessary for us
to refuse your request under section 18(e) of the OIA, because the document alleged to contain
the information does not exist.
Our appliance cascade plan does however state on page eleven that once we have established
which trucks are to be replaced, we then arrange the cascades within that group to minimise the
fit-outs and transport distance required. Please find attached, as
Appendix 2, a copy of this
appliance cascade plan for your reference.
We trust that the information being provided is of assistance. If you require further information,
please email [FENZ request email].
Please note that Fire and Emergency may publish this response (with your personal details
removed) on our website.
Nāku noa, nā
