Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation, received on 26 March 2024,
in which you asked for:
The removal plan, proposed timeframe as well as forecast and any incurred costs, for
the former Downhill Ski Club Lodge at Whakapapa.
We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
I regret that I am not able to provide you with the information you seek as the information you
have requested does not exist. In this respect, your request is declined under section 18(e)
of the OIA.
No removal plan has been developed for the Downhill Ski Club, and no timeframes have
been set at this time. The forecast removal costs have been estimated at $669,000 based on
a quote received by an independent contractor in June 2023. To date, no costs have been
incurred by the Department in relation to this.
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an
Ombudsman as provided by section 28(3) of the OIA.
Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) may be published on the
Department’s website.
Nāku noa, nā
