Thank you for your email of 5 April 2024 to the Ministry for Ethnic Communities (the
Ministry) requesting the fol owing information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act):
1) Is your department at risk of overspending its financial appropriation this year?
If it is, please supply
•
all correspondence with and information supplied to Treasury about this
•
all correspondence with and information supplied to your Minister and your
Minister’s office about this
•
all correspondence with and information supplied to the Public Services
Commission about this

all correspondence with and information supplied to the Auditor-General or
his office about this
•

•
all papers to or considered by your risk and audit committee about this
•
all papers to or considered by any other of your governance groups about
this
2) Have you set aside an allowance in this financial year for redundancies or other costs
of restructuring?
•
If so, how much is that allowance?
•
If not, do you anticipate any costs for these in this financial year?…
In response to part one of your request, the Ministry is not expecting that it will overspend
it’s financial appropriation.
In response to part two of your request, while the Ministry has forecast some expenditure
on redundancies, the Ministry is currently undergoing a change process and considering a
change proposal. This proposal is currently under consideration, and no final decisions have
been made. Therefore, this part of your request is refused under section 9(2)(j) of the Act, to
enable a public service agency holding the information to carry on, without prejudice or
disadvantage, negotiations (including commercial and industrial negotiations).
