I refer to your request for information dated 10 April 2024, which was received by Greater
Wellington Regional Council (Greater Wellington) on 29 April 2024 via Hutt City Council. You have
requested the following:
“Please provide all information relating to the pest control operation described on Facebook as
follows:
Awareness Post for those who frequently use these areas.
If not aware or didn't see sign posted regarding Hunting Cull Operation Happening Now 20/03/24 -
12/04/24
Location: Wainuiomata Area across
ECNZ Road & Firebreaks
Waiu Park &Trail & MTB Park & Surrounding Areas It is near completion but still wanted to let the
community and frequent users know.

Please ensure that you provide all geographic information relating to the operation.
Please provide all publicity relating to the operation and all communications with affected or
neighbouring landowners.”
Greater Wellington’s response follows:
Attachment 1 includes:
• maps of geographic information relating to the operation referred to in the Facebook post
showing operational boundary, warning sign locations, known recreational tracks inside the
operational area, contractor hunting tracks, contractor drone flight paths and ungulate kill
location
• warning signage used. Warning signs were installed at location indicated on the 18 March
2024 and removed on the 19 April 2024

affected or neighbouring landowners under section 7(2)(a) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 in order to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that
of deceased natural persons.
We have considered whether the public interest in the requested information outweighs Greater
Wellington’s need to withhold certain aspects of the requested information. As a result, we do not
consider that the public interest outweighs Greater Wellington’s reason for withholding parts of the
document under the grounds identified above.
If you have any concerns with the decision(s) referred to in this letter, you have the right to request
an investigation and review by the Ombudsman under section 27(3) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987.
