: [FYI request #26430 email] Tēnā koe AC,
I refer to your information request dated 14 April 2024 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested following information:
The aggregate grades (the average number grade out of the three papers) for 200 level
genetics papers from students that took all three papers from the last four years. The papers
are GENE221, GENE222, and GENE223.
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested.
• the data is correct as at 23 April 2024.
• please note that only students who remained actively enrolled in all 3 papers in the same year
are counted in the data.
• please note that all final grades for the 2020 Semester 1 GENE221 paper were increased by 5
marks to account for disruptions created by COVID-19.
• we note that students who may have received a Failed Compulsory Assessment (FC) grade are
counted in the data. Some students who receive an FC grade may have a high enough mark
from internal assessment to have passed the paper, but have failed a piece of compulsory
assessment or the exam, and therefore receive an FC result.
• in the attached grade and mark distributions, we note that students who withdrew from the
papers are excluded from the data.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act
provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Ngā mihi
