Thank you for your email of 15 April 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
I am requesting a list of Accredited Work visa employers who:
-Have had their accreditation revoked
-Are currently under investigation for possible Migrant Worker Exploitation
Our Response
We are withholding the list of employers that have had their Accredited Employer Work Visa
accreditation revoked under section 9(2)(b)(ii) as releasing this information would be likely
unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the employers.
More information on accredited employers is publicly available on the Immigration New Zealand
(INZ) website at the fol owing link:
https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/preparing-a-visa-application/working-in-nz/check-
if-an-employer-is-accredited
Accredited employers can choose not to have their accreditation information on the INZ website, and
therefore it may not show all accredited employers.
We are also withholding your request for the list of employers currently under investigation for possible
migrant worker exploitation, under section 6(c) of the Act, as the making available of the information
would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation, and
detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial.
We can advise that as at 17 April 2024, there are currently 212 active investigations on accredited
employers underway, and 255 employers have had their accreditation revoked and 82 have had their
accreditation suspended. 42 employers are under assessment to have their accreditation revoked and
one employer is currently under assessment to have their accreditation suspended. More information
can be found at the fol owing link:
https://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/media-centre/common-topics/accredited-employer-
work-visa-aewv
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest considerations
in making the information available.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802
