Please note that as an international student you will be required to pay international fees for
2023 even if your status changes to New Zealand domestic student during the year. If your
status should change to domestic student prior to the commencement of the programme, your
offer of place as an international student will no longer be valid.

To be in this programme you must be in Auckland for the start of orientation. There is no online
option of study available. If you are not in New Zealand currently, please contact us at
[email address] to let us know when you will be in New Zealand, or so that we can provide
further advice.
Enrol now in courses for your programme. Refer to the Programme Enrolment below.
Fitness to Practise and Child Safety
Students in clinical programmes must meet the Faculty’s ‘fitness to practise’
requirements. Concerns about a student’s fitness to practise will be managed in accordance with
th
e fitness to practise policy. The most important goal of the framework is patient safety. In
general, fitness to practise concerns are managed in a rehabilitative way. On rare occasions,
fitness to practise concerns may affect a student’s ability to enter or complete the programme.
Students are required to satisfy the components of the Safety Check required under th
e
Children's Act. If you are found to have been convicted of a specified offence (as listed i
n
Schedule 2 of the CA) or otherwise assessed to pose an undue risk to the safety of children, you
may not continue in the programme. If you are enrolled in courses for your programme, these
will be dropped on your behalf.
This following online form must be completed and submitted by
20 January 2023. The purpose
of this form is to allow the University to identify and resolve potential fitness to practise and child
safety concerns as early as possible. You may be required to upload additional information during
your submission.

Māori Health Intensive - attendance
compulsory (Add to your
diary now)
All Year 2 students in Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy will be involved in Māori Health Intensive
from 10 – 13 July 2023. This is facilitated by Te Kupenga Hauora Māori with the leaders of the
respective programmes.
All students will participate in both large and small group sessions and in visits to local marae, and
are expected to be available for the whole week. Applications to defer Māori Health Intensive will
only be considered under exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. If a deferral of Māori
Health Intensive is granted, you will be required to participate in the 2024 Māori Health Intensive,
as the study is a compulsory part of the curriculum.
Information technology (IT) requirements
Assessment at the university, and therefore the medical programme, is increasingly moving
online. Courses also need to be capable of a shift to e-learning. Appropriate technology is an
important tool for students.
All students entering the programme require a laptop or
desktop computer (not a tablet, Chromebook or smart phone) that is still able to download
operating system updates.
Study outside of Auckland
Please note that in the clinical years (years 4,5,6), all students are required to spend some time in
clinical placements outside of Auckland. Both short-term general practice placements and year-
long placements in one of eight DHBs in the upper North Island are required. All students are
required to spend one full clinical year out of Auckland. Further information will be provided during
week 1. If there are insufficient students who volunteer for these placements, the programme
operates a ballot system, which is binding on all students.
Your acceptance of a place in the
medical programme implies that you agree to study outside of the Auckland region.
Transmissible & Blood-borne Infections
Healthcare workers need to be protected from diseases they will encounter and, on occasions
throughout their careers, will be asked by employers for evidence they have this protection. In
addition, The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) needs to assure Health Training
Providers that students are safe to work in clinical environments.
All students are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Detailed information will be sent early in 2023, please look out for this information.
