Tēnā koe John Smith
I refer to your email of 20 May 2024 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
All documents sent by New Zealand under Article 22(3) of the Protocol on the Accession of
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Comprehensive and
Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership? You may give the dates only.
In our capacity as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership
(CPTPP) Depositary, New Zealand informed the Parties, and the United Kingdom, of Japan’s
notification under Article 20 on 18 December 2023, Singapore’s on 23 January 2024, and Chile’s
on 11 April 2024.
The notifications themselves are withheld in full under section 6(b)(i) of the OIA, to protect the
passing of information from another government on a confidential basis.
Further to our previous response sent to you on 20 May 2024 (OIA 29339 refers), on 16 May
2024 the UK deposited its instrument of accession under Article 19 of the Agreement. The
Depositary fulfilled its Article 22 obligations on the same day (16 May 2024).
Please note that it is our policy to proactively release our responses to official information
requests where possible. Therefore, our response to your request (with your personal information
removed) may be published on the Ministry website:
