: [FYI request #26636 email] Tēnā koe HMW,
I refer to your information request dated 5 May 2024 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested the following information:
“for domestic graduate-entry category applicants (Including only rural graduate subcategory) to
the Medical (MBChB) programme for the years 2022-2024 entry:
1. Lowest GPA for successful graduate applicants (including rural sub-category) for medicine (and
their UCAT score if allowed)
2. UCAT threshold cutoffs for each section of UCAT for graduate applicants for medicine.”
Please see below our response to your request.
1. The minimum weighted GPA score to receive offers to the 2022-2024 MB ChB programme
via the Graduate Rural equity group
Minimum weighted GPA score to receive offers to the
MB ChB programme via the Graduate Rural equity group
2022
7.13
2023
4.84
2024
5.78
In relation to your request for “their UCAT score if allowed”, an overall UCAT score is not part of the
selection process. Instead, the minimum UCAT requirement to receive an offer for entry into the MB
ChB programme is through meeting the thresholds set by the Medical Admissions Committee each
year. Please see additional information below.
2. UCAT thresholds for 2022- 2024 entry to MB ChB, general and rural categories
The MB ChB UCAT criteria is set annually by the University of Otago’s Medical Admissions Committee.
Where UCAT is used as a threshold for admission, the thresholds for entry to the 2022 - 2024 MB ChB
programmes were set as follows:
2022
-
Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at or above the 20th percentile
-
Situational Judgement: threshold set above the 10th percentile
-
Scores for Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning are not
considered.
2023
-
Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at or above the 20th percentile
-
Situational Judgement: threshold set above the 10th percentile
-
Scores for Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning are not
considered.
2024
-
Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at or above the 20th percentile
-
Situational Judgement: threshold set above the 10th percentile
-
Scores for Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning are not
considered.
It is important to note that the set thresholds are minimum thresholds – achieving the UCAT
thresholds does not guarantee an offer to the programme. Further information on the entry
requirements for the MB ChB programme are available at
the Medicine: Guidelines for Admission
webpage.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
Ngā mihi,
