Thank you for your emails of 9 May 2024 in which you request the fol owing under the
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
al advice, meeting notes and communications (emails, text messages,
Whatsapp, Teams messages) regarding the meeting you held with
representatives of the NZ Jewish Council.
al advice, meeting notes and communications (emails, text messages,
Whatsapp, Teams messages) regarding the meeting you held with
representatives of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand.
On 7 June 2024, the timeframes for responding to your request were extended by an
additional 20 working days due to the consultations necessary to make a decision on
your request. (section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA refers).
Attached are the documents relevant to your request. Some parts of the documents are
withheld under the fol owing sections of the OIA:
6(a): to avoid prejudicing the security or defence of New Zealand or the
international relations of the New Zealand Government;
6(b)(i ): to protect the passing of information from an international organisation
on a confidential basis;
9(2)(a): to protect individuals’ privacy;
9(2)(ba): to protect the supply of confidential information by a third party;
9(2)(f)(iv): to maintain constitutional conventions;
9(2)(g)(i): to protect the free and frank expression of opinions by departments;
and,
9(2)(g)(i ): to protect officials from improper pressure and harassment.
Where the information has been withheld under section 9 of the OIA, no public interest
in releasing the information has been identified that would override the reasons for
withholding it.

Please note that there is an error in the brief for the meeting with the Federation of
Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ). On page four, paragraph two states that
“MFAT funding was provided to FIANZ on a one-off basis”. This information is incorrect.
A correction was communicated verbal y to this office by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade (MFAT) prior to the meeting: Ministry funding was provided on a one-off basis
to support the establishment of a coordinator role for the Christchurch Cal Advisory
Network. The funding was not provided to FIANZ.
