Official information Request: Camping Grounds
I am writing to you in response to your request received via transfer from Greater Wellington
Regional Council on 17 May 2024 for the following information:
“
Could you kindly provide a list of all camping grounds which Council has issued a camping
ground licence in the past 3 years in accordance with the Camping Ground Regulations 1985.
Please include relevant addresses for each camping ground and identify if any camping grounds
are operated by Council or subject to a lease with Council.”
We have assessed your request under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA) and can provide you with the following response.
South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) have issued the following annual camping ground licences
in the past 3 years:
• Gateway Holiday Park, 3110 Lake Ferry Road, Martinborough.
• Lake Ferry Holiday Park 25-39 Lake Ferry Road, Lake Ferry (expired 31/07/21)
• Lake Ferry Holiday Park 25-39 Lake Ferry Road, Lake Ferry (since 25/10/23)
• Greytown Campground, 11-55 Kuratawhiti Street, Greytown
• Martinborough Top 10 Holiday Park, 10 Vintners Lane, Martinborough
• Featherston Motels and Camping Ground, 4 Fitzherbert Street, Featherston.
• Tauherenikau Holiday Park, 2021 State Highway 2, Featherston.
• Waimeha Camping Ground, 2805 Cape Palliser Road, Ngawi.
The two licences issued to Lake Ferry Holiday Park were to different operators.
SWDC have also issued the following short-term licences for weekend events:
• Tora Bombora, 313 Te Awaiti Road, Te Awaiti.
• 121 Festival at 2021 State Highway 2, Featherston.
• Taniwhas Den, 172 Moeraki Road, Martinborough.
SWDC owns the land on which the fol owing camping grounds are situated and leases or licences the
land to private operators:
• Lake Ferry Holiday Park 25-39 Lake Ferry Road, Lake Ferry
• Greytown Campground, 11-55 Kuratawhiti Street, Greytown
• Martinborough Top 10 Holiday Park, 10 Vintners Lane, Martinborough
