Severe Weather Outlook
A disturbed west to southwest flow covers the country through to
Thursday, with a few embedded fronts moving across southern and
central New Zealand. There is moderate confidence of westerly
gales becoming severe over the south of Fiordland, Southland, and
Clutha on Wednesday and Thursday, with low confidence of severe
westerly gales extending further north through the rest of Southland,
Otago, and the South Canterbury High Country.
A front should move onto the far south of the South Island on
Friday, bringing northwest rain to Fiordland and Westland. Periods
of rain are likely in Fiordland during Thursday and Friday, and there
is low confidence of rainfall reaching warnings amounts there.
