are looking at options for Election Day in some areas. Key focus areas are supplies and queue
management.
• Maintaining staff in East Coast is starting to become an issue. We have had several withdrawals this
morning, placing pressure on an already hard to recruit area. We have four people coming from National
Office (NO) and are currently assembling two teams of Issuing Officers (IOs) from other electorates (Bay
of Plenty and Tauranga east) to have on hand.

• A few Electorate Managers (EMs) are receiving calls from NZ Loyal party wanting to know Headquarters
(HQ) addresses even where there is no Electorate Candidate.
• Progressing slowly with prisoners at Remutaka. Challenge around getting staff and no access to a roll.
Will be working on Election Day.

NZ Police:
Several pro-Palestine solidarity gatherings or marches are scheduled across the country on
Saturday 14 October, with the possibility of an additional one on Sunday 15 October. Pro-Israel
counter events are possible, given the context. Police are watching developments in terms of any
interest pro-Israeli or other groups may generate regarding providing a counter presence to the
scheduled events. Given the timings, these have the potential to disrupt voting in certain locations
on Election Day.
NEMA (Daily Intelligence Briefing attached):
Current forecasts are indicating a possibility of severe weather, but not necessarily to an
emergency threshold. Some CDEM Groups may maintain a heightened watch status over the
weekend, however this level of rainfall is not unusual for areas such as Fiordland. There may be
some impact to voter turnout if advice is given to stay home unless necessary due to weather. This
advice will be determined at regional levels and not until there is weather certainty.

Severe Weather Outlook
A strong west to northwest flow is expected to impact
New Zealand from Saturday. Periods of heavy rain are
anticipated, mainly in western parts of the country, with
burst of heavy rain likely about the west of the South
Island over weekend.
There is high confidence rainfall amounts will reach
warning criteria about Westland south of Otari plus the
adjacent headwaters of Canterbury and Otago on
Saturday and again on Sunday. The confidence of
warning amounts of rain in Fiordland, northern Westland,
Buller, and western Tasman is considered moderate, but
is low for Southland, Clutha and the Tararua range.
There is high confidence that northwest winds will reach
severe gale about exposed parts of Canterbury,
Marlborough, Wellington, Wairarapa and the Tararua
District during this time, and low confidence of severe
northwest gales for Hawkes Bay south of Hastings,
inland Southland, and Otago.
Prepared by the NEMA Monitoring, Alerting and Reporting Centre to provide awareness that supports informed decision making.
