Auckland North Region
Mt Albert Recount
• We have completed three recounts.
• The judge has signed the certificate.
• Lots of lessons to be learnt from the recount.
• Observation on the electorate that it was a well-run and a controlled electorate, but yet there were small
errors in the count.
• Initial assessment of the recount is that the errors were identified within the large counts of 2k ballot
boxes. Will need to rethink this for future process.
• The judge’s feedback on the election results is that no one should ever doubt the integrity of the electoral
process and results.
• Mt Albert recount judgement is now published on the District Court's website: Re An Application by

Severe
During Thursday, northwesterlies should strengthen over the country as a front approaches the South Island.
Weather
Heavy rain is also expected in western areas, especially as the front moves up the South Island during Friday.
Outlook
The front may become slow-moving near central New Zealand on Saturday.
There is low confidence that warning amounts of rain will fall in Fiordland and most of Westland on Thursday,
increasing to moderate confidence on Friday. There is also moderate confidence that a rainfall warning will be
needed for the Grey District, Buller, Tasman, western Marlborough, the Tararua Range and Mount Taranaki on
Friday and Saturday. About Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa there is moderate confidence that
northwest winds will reach warning strength on Thursday and Friday, while there is low confidence that
warning strength winds will also affect Fiordland, Southland and inland areas of Otago and Canterbury on
Thursday.
Snow may affect some of the higher roads of the southern South Island overnight Friday to Saturday, but it is
unlikely that a widespread snow warning will be required.
A low may form over the northern Tasman Sea late in the week and move towards the North Island during the
weekend. Currently, there is a lot of uncertainty about the forecast position and intensity of this low. There is
low confidence that a warning for severe gale north to northeast winds will be needed in Northland and
Auckland on Saturday and Sunday and that warning amounts of heavy rain will fall in these places on Sunday.
