Thank you for your request of 30 May 2024, and then your clarification on 18 June 2024 to Fire and 
Emergency New Zealand requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 
1982 (OIA): 
 
•  Please provide a list of all ranked paid employees within FENZ. This information should 
capture all Firefighters, Communications Staff, District Management, Region Management, 
USAR personnel etc. 
•  This should be by rank, first and last name, station/area. 
•  Non-ranked employees, such as Region staff BSC, HR, should be excluded. 
 
On balance, we do not consider there is any public interest met by disclosure which would outweigh 
the privacy interests in this information. Therefore, your request is refused in ful  pursuant to 
section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of natural persons.  
 
You have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(3) of the OIA, to request an investigation 
and review of Fire and Emergency’s decision to withhold information by the Ombudsman.
