Information request
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 10 June 2024, in which you
ask for:
Copies of any complaints made to Police about either Te Pāti Māori or Manurewa
marae’s conduct concerning the 2023 election from May 1st 2023 up until the
15th of March 2024.
Al communications concerning the above between Police and the electoral
commission or its representatives covering the same dates.
I can confirm Police did receive complaints from the Electoral Commission in relation to
Te Pati Maori and Manurewa Marae’s conduct concerning the 2023 election between the
dates you have supplied.
I can also confirm there were communications concerning the above, between Police and
the Electoral Commission or its representatives covering the same dates.
However, these cases are all stil active investigations, therefore the information
requested is withheld under 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available of the information is
likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation and
detection of offences and the right to fair trial.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
