Thank you for your request of 2 July 2024, to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting the
following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
•
I would like to obtain a map(s) of ALL Fire Station Turnout areas nationwide. Please include
the boundary lines between neighboring stations etc.
Thank you for your correspondence of 8 July 2024, confirming you would be happy to receive a
KMZ file for all First Response Areas (FRAs), instead of the requested maps.
Please find attached, as
Appendix One to this response, a compressed folder containing a KMZ file
composed of all FRAs and fire station points. This can be added into Google Earth’s web client
here, by clicking ‘
File’ then ‘
import KML / KMZ file’.
Please note the fol owing regarding the data being provided to you:
• FRAs are subject to constant change. As such, within 2 months of this response, the
attached should not be regarded as representative of current data.
• FRAs represent Fire and Emergency dispatching only in a generalised manner. Resource
dispatching is multifaceted, and considers the type of incident, availability of resources,
and location of resources. Our dispatch uses the ‘Computer Aided Dispatch’ (CAD) system,
which is too complex to represent with polygons.
• KML files have an upper file size limit of 5MB. To provide you the requested information in
this format, a tool was used to remove extra vertices to get the file to this size. This results
in there being some gaps where the FRAs meet.
• Not all stations have an FRA. Those without them are still dispatched to incidents in their
vicinity.
We trust that the information being provided is of assistance. If you require further information,
please email [FENZ request email].
