Dear Catherine
Official Information Act request relating to He Whenua Taurikura information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 4 July 2024.
On 16 July 2024 the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) wrote to you to
advise you that your request had been partially transferred to Victoria University of
Wellington (VUW). The parts remaining with DPMC are as follows:
1. How were these staff positions filled? Was there a formal application process? If so,
when and where was this process advertised? (in respect of Director positions only)
2. Location of HWT Is there a plan to rotate the location of HWT among different
universities, or will it remain permanently at Victoria University?
I have added numbering for ease of reference.
Regarding part 1 of your request, while the He Whenua Taurikura Centre (the Centre) is
hosted by Victoria University of Wellington, the appointments process for the Co-Directors
was undertaken by DPMC. As such, DPMC has retained this part of your request for
response. Document 1 provides the process and timeline for the recruitment of the Director
position. I can also advise that the position was advertised on Govt.jobs, SEEK, LinkedIn,
and the Central Agencies Shared Services internal intranet.

Board of the He Whenua Taurikura charitable trust (the HWT Trust). With the recent Budget
24 changes to the Centre’s future funding, the HWT Trust wil work with the Centre Director,
VUW and DPMC to consider the implications of the changes to funding and options for a
future operating model.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
We do not intend to publish this response on the Department of the Prime Minister and
