Official Information Act request dated 17 July 2024
We refer to your email dated 17 July 2024 requesting further information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) following your previous requests. The answers
to your specific questions are set out below.
Request: Can you please clarify response 3:
“This meeting was a dinner function with a group of New Zealand producers and
directors” - you have chosen not to withhold information under provisions provided
under the OIA, rather you have simply failed to provide further reasonable details. As
such, please provide the names of the NZ producers and directors, TVNZ executives
dined with and any informal texts or emails relating to this event as it certainly falls
within the public interest sphere - executives of our National broadcaster attended
this “unplanned event” featuring Kiwi producers and directors.
To avoid any confusion, can also please confirm if the “dinner function” referred to is
actual y the “Uber Eats catering” as expensed or is that a different occasion?
Response: We have already provided details of the TVNZ executives who attended
this dinner and explained the nature of the dinner (i.e., that it was a dinner arranged
during the course of the LA Screenings event and no formal correspondence exists).
The names of the producer and director attendees have been withheld on the basis
of section 9(2)(a) of the Act: to protect the privacy of the relevant producer and
director attendees of what was an informal dinner function.
We confirm the dinner referred to is the Uber Eats catering of US$110.63 claimed for
al three TVNZ attendees, which is wel within TVNZ’s expense policy.
Please note that section 28 of the Act sets out the circumstances in which you may
make a complaint to the Ombudsman in order to seek an investigation and review of
this decision.
Yours sincerely,
