Official information request regarding average grades and grade 
distributions for the 2023 academic year 
 
We refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the 
Act) on 30 July 2024: 
“1. The average grades for all papers offered by Victoria University of Wellington 
in the 2023 academic year. 
2. If readily available, the standard deviation of grades for each of these papers.” 
 
The information you requested can be found in the attached spreadsheet along with the 
table of weightings used for GPA calculations at the University. Please note that 
information on courses with low enrolment numbers is withheld in accordance with 
s9(2)(a) of the Act in order to protect the privacy of natural persons as individual grades 
may be able to be identified.
