Tēnā koe John,
Your Official Information Act 1982 request, reference OIA 2425-0159
I am responding to your email of 18 August 2024 to Te Tari Taiwhenua | the Department of
Internal Affairs requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act):
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for your Fire and Emergency Board-
Member Role
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have
shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. When you expect the process will
concluded
I respond to each of your queries below.
Response to your request
On 11 June 2024, Te Tari Taiwhenua began calling for nominations and applications for the
position on the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Board (the Board). This involved an open
search process, following Public Service Commission guidelines, and included:
seeking nominations from the Minister of Internal Affairs and caucuses;
seeking nominations from population agencies, such as the Ministry for Women,
Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Te Puni Kōkiri, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, and the
Ministry for Disabled People; and
advertising on Te Tari Taiwhenua’s website, jobs.govt.nz, Māori and Pacific jobs,
TradeMe, Seek, and through the Institute of Directors New Zealand.
On 13 July 2024, the last application for the Board was received. We received 53 applications
from interested candidates. One applicant was a nominee of the Ministry for Women. No
other applicants were nominated by nominating agencies. One applicant was nominated by
a member of Parliament.
We are in the process of shortlisting applicants and expect to hold interviews in September
2024. I am therefore refusing your request for the number of applicants shortlisted and
interviewed under section 18(e) of the Act, as the information requested does not exist.
We expect that any new appointments to the Board will be made by the end of the year,
however, this timeframe may be subject to change.
Accessing the Ombudsman
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this
decision by the Office of the Ombudsman. Information on how to make a complaint is

Proactive release
We intend to publish our response to your request on our website at: www.dia.govt.nz. This
letter, with your personal details removed, will be published in its entirety. Publishing
responses increases the availability of information to the public and is consistent with the
Act’s purpose of enabling more effective participation in the making and administration of
