[FYI request #28110 email]
Dear John Luke
Thank you for your email of 19 August 2024 requesting information relating to an
appointment to the Walking Access Commission. Your request has been considered under
the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested the following:
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for your New Zealand Walking Access
Commission https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2024-go4092
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have
shortlisted and how many you have interviewed.
The method for appointing new board members to the New Zealand Walking Access
Commission is informed by the Crown Entities Act 2024 (section 28 and 29). If the Minister’s
preference is to seek nominations, then on his behalf the Ministry for Primary Industries will
seek nominations from various nominating agencies.
The Gazette notice you referenced in your request (
Gazette Notice No. MPI 1861) was a
direct appointment by the responsible Minister and did not involve or require a nomination
process.
Should you have any concerns with this response, I would encourage you to raise these with
the Ministry for Primary Industries at [email address]. Alternatively, you
are advised of your right to also raise any concerns with the Office of the Ombudsman.
Contact details are: Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143 or at
[email address].
Yours sincerely
Tim Grace
