Official information request
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 23 August 2024 to the
New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS). Your request asked for the following, in
relation to the New Zealand Institute of Intelligence Professionals annual conference 2024:
' .. ONE: For the presentation "Open and Transparent Community Engagement at NZS/5" by
Antonia Butler, I would like to request copies of all speech notes, talking points and other
presentation materials (e.g. PowerPoint slides).
TWO: For any other presentations, speeches, talks, addresses etc made by NZSJS staff at
this conference I would like to request copies of all speech notes, talking points and other
presentation materials used by the NZSIS staff .. "
Response
Please find a copy of the speech requested in part one of your request enclosed. No other
information was prepared to support this presentation.
With regard to the second part of your request, please find attached material prepared by
our Chief Advisor Maori to support her attendance in a panel discussion at this conference.
Our Chief Advisor Maori role supports both the NZSIS and GCSB. A small amount of
information has been withheld in this material under section 6(a) of the OIA, as the making
available of the information would be likely to prejudice the security or defence of
New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand. In
considering this material, please note that actual delivery will have differed.
Review
If you would like to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact
[NZSIS request email]. You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the
Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Please note that the NZSIS proactively publishes OIA responses in accordance with the
expectations of Te Kawa Mataaho/the Public Service Commission. We may publish this letter
(with your personal information removed) on the NZSIS website. Publication of such
responses is typically done on a quarterly basis.
