Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of
Health – Manatū Hauora (the Ministry) on 26 August 2024 for information regarding the Hauora
Māori Advisory Committee. You requested:
“I noted, you have recently call for nomination for your Hauora Māori Advisory Committee
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have received
from the public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as
TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and how many
you have interviewed.”
Recruitment and appointments to the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee (the Committee) were
carried out in accordance with the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022. The Pae Ora (Healthy
Futures) Act 2022 states that members are appointed to the Committee by the Minister of
Health after consulting with the Minister for Māori Development. In this instance, nominations
were sought from the Minister for Māori Development, and the coalition party leaders.
The Ministry received 12 nominations from the Minister for Māori Development, one of whom
was already a member on the Committee. Of the 12 nominations received from the Minister for
Māori Development, 10 of the nominees applied. Three nominations were received from the
Deputy Prime Minister. Of the three nominations received from the Deputy Prime Minister, two
of the nominees applied.
A total of 20 applications were received, including from the eight incumbent Committee
members. All of the applications were considered by the Minister of Health. Interviews are not
typically undertaken for incumbent members of statutory health boards or committees. In this
instance, no interviews were undertaken as the Minister of Health chose to reappoint all of the
existing Committee members.
I trust this information fulfils your request. If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with
us, including this decision, please feel free to contact the OIA Services Team on:
[email address].
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review any
