Official Information Act (OIA) request: Occupation of pacific peoples by industry
On 30 August 2024
, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples contacted Stats NZ transferring, under
the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), your request for the fol owing information:

information regarding the occupation of pacific peoples by industry e.g.
Information Technology, Accounting, Medical
We have interpreted your request as referring to the employment of pacific people by
industry. You can find this information on Stats NZ’s website here:
Industry (division) and
ethnic group (grouped total responses) by sex, for the employed census usually resident
population count aged 15 years and over, 2006, 2013, and 2018 Censuses (RC, TA, SA2,
DHB). Your request for this information is therefore refused under section 18(d) of the Act
on the basis that the information requested is already publicly available.
Data on this topic from the 2023 Census wil be available in October 2024. Please refer to
our release schedule for further information:

Stats NZ also produces data on employment by occupation and industry – for example,
how many people are employed as managers in the manufacturing industry. This data is
not broken down by ethnicity. It is possible that this information could be created on receipt
