[FYI request #28505 email]
Dear Joseph
Request for information
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request received by email on 24
September 2024, in which you ask for:
‘I request the number of complaints, reports, inquiries or investigations launched
or submitted to Police (followed through or not), if any since the introduction of
the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Act 2022 into legislation; so
since February 2022.

I also request whether if any complaints, reports, inquiries or investigations
were made prior to the introduction of the legislation.’

I can advise that one complaint has been received by Police since the Conversion
Practices Prohibition Legislation Act 2022 came into force, as at today’s date. This
complaint was of a general nature and did not provide evidence identifying a specific
victim or offence. It did not result in an investigation or prosecution.
In relation to complaints received prior to the law taking effect, I can advise that
Police received one report which was looked into, however no evidence of an
offence was found.
If you are not satisfied with my response to your request, you have the right to refer the
matter to the Ombudsman.  Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
