Thank you for your request of 30 September 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing information:
“- A full overview and breakdown of all costs associated with the Science System Advisory Group (SSAG),
including member fees and remuneration, administrative/secretariat costs, hosting, etc.;
- Al communications (email, text, phone, etc.) between the Ministry and the chair of the SSAG Sir Peter
Gluckman;
- Any and all communications to or from the Ministry regarding the SSAG’s intial report;
- A copy of all submissions received by the SSAG during phases one and two of consultation.”
I am writing to advise you that MBIE wil provide a response but needs to extend the time available to answer
your request. MBIE’s response wil be sent to you no later than Tuesday, 26 November 2024. However, we wil
respond to you sooner if we are able to.
The reason for the extension applies to section 15A(1)(a) of the Act, as the request necessitates a search through
a large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with operations,
and section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a
proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
We have undertaken some initial work on col ation, and we also need to clarify the third part of your request
please. Can you please explain in further detail the kind of communication you are seeking. While no decision has
been made at this stage, our initial view is that we would likely need to refuse a request for al communication
between MBIE and al third parties under section 18(f) due to the substantial col ation and research required to
locate this information. However, please let us know if this is not what you are seeking.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request, or if you require any further assistance, please contact
[email address].
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how
to make a complaint is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
