OFFICIAL INFORMATION REQUEST
I refer to your official information request dated 2 October 2024 for information in relation Additional
50kmh signs in Findlay Street, National Park Waimarino.
Please provide details of correspondence relating to this issue between Ruapehu District Council
and Waka Kotahi; and details of the regulatory obstacles to placing further 50kmh signs along
Findlay St.
Council have decided to refuse your request under section 17(e) of the LGOIMA Act - that the
document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist.
There was no correspondence between Waka Kotahi and Council as the information required
regarding the placement of traffic control devices is on the Waka Kotahi website. The original
request from the Community Board related to the placement of the the 50km sign on Findlay
Street, National Park.
The 50km/h sign on Findlay Street, National Park has been installed at approximately 23 meters
from the intersection, please refer to Land Transport Rule, Setting of Speed Limits 2024, Section
8.1(1) and (5)(b)

While no investigation was actioned by Council regarding the placement of repeater signs, please
refer to Additional Technical Information, Speed management guide: Road to Zero edition, page 2
Speed management guide: Road to Zero edition 2022. Following the recommendations from
NZTA, the Council does not believe that a repeater sign is appropriate in this instance.
