Kathryn Greenbrook
[FYI request #2863 email]
Dear Ms Greenbrook
Thank you for your email dated 20 June 2015 to the Ministry of Business Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) requesting information about income statistics broken down by industry,
occupation and gender under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act). MBIE has transferred
your request to Statistics NZ for a response.
It is not clear from your request which occupations or industries you are seeking information
about or exactly how you would like the information broken down. Without further details
Statistics NZ cannot provide you with the information you have requested.
If you are specifically interested in a breakdown of income statistics by sex, industry and
occupation, this information is not available. The sample size of Statistics NZ’s income surveys
do not allow us to produce estimates of an acceptable quality at that level of detail.
However, Statistics NZ publishes income statistics broken down by industry, occupation or sex
on the
Income Tables section of Statistics NZ’s website. The table
Earnings from main wage
and salary job by occupation (ANZSCO2006), sex, and broad age groups (2009 onwards) can
be customised to provide Information broken down by sex, occupation and income.
If you need any assistance to find the statistics you require using the customisable table or if
the specific occupation you are seeking is not available in the table, you can contact Statistics
NZ’s information centre on 0508 525 525 for assistance.
You have the right, by way of complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman under section 28(3)
of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this response to your request.
Yours sincerely
Bridget Hamilton-Seymour
Director Office of the Chief Executive
