Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of
Health – Manatū Hauora (the Ministry) on 6 October 2024 for:
“Please direct this OIA request specifically toward Chris James, Group Manager Medsafe. I
am requesting all the email correspondence you have (including attachments) that have the
terms “graphene” or “graphene oxide” or “graphene hydroxide”.
I am also requesting copies of any documents or papers you have access to that discuss
the possible or potential presence of “graphene” / “graphene oxide”/ “graphene hydroxide”
in medicines, vaccines or medical products.”
Apart from emails containing OIA responses that are solely sent to me for signing, I do not hold
any email correspondence that contains the word ‘graphene’. As such, your request for this
information is therefore refused under section 18(e) of the Act.
Medsafe evaluates applications for all new medicines, including vaccines, to ensure that they
comply with international standards and local requirements for quality, safety and efficacy. The
