I refer to the Official Information Act (the Act) request dated 8 October 2024 regarding two CHEM courses. You
have specifical y requested:

I request to know the grade breakdown of CHEM242 and CHEM246 first midterms of 2024.
Please see the requested information overleaf. Where the number of students is five students or less, the
exact number is not provided, rather a range of less than or equal to five (≤5). This is to protect the individual’s
privacy under s 9(2)(a) of the Act. It is in the public interest that individuals are not identifiable when providing
information regarding course grades.
Please note that Mid-term tests in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences (SPCS) are very rarely “graded”
as it is the course as a whole that can only be official y passed (or failed) and thus graded. At examiners
meetings held after the final exams, the “total marks” are turned into “grades” in the internal moderation
processes. Internal assessment such as these tests contribute a certain % of the total mark obtained for the
course. These contributions are available to the student in the Course Outline and on the Course Information
System (CIS).
