Official Information Act request: Correspondence relating to the HMNZS Manawanui 
incident 
 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 10 October 
2024. You requested: 
 
“All communications including but not limited to emails, texts and records of 
phone calls to the incident involving the HMNZS Manawanui in Samoa between 
5th October and 9th October.” 
 
I have decided under section 15A of the Act to extend the time limit for deciding on your 
request by an additional 27 working days. 
 
The extension is required because your request necessitates a search through a large 
quantity of information, and consultations are needed before a decision can be made on your 
request. Despite the extension, a response will be sent to you as soon as possible. 
 
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under 
section 28(3) of the Act.
