Thank you for your email of 19 October 2024 to New Zealand Police requesting, under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
You've released to business desk about how it would cost 5$ per company relating establishing the
ownership register and there would be benefits of this said register relating to policing.
Please share the business case, proposal and and the associated evidence of that this solution
would do to the identified problem.
Also please share the evaluation papers how it stacks against other solutions when these were
considered and why the business case is the preferred one over others that was proposed to the
government.
On 23 October 2024, your request was transferred to the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
(MBIE) under section 14 of the Act, as the information is believed to be held by and more closely related
to, the functions of MBIE.
The information requested has been proactively released and can be found at the following locations on
the MBIE website. Therefore, I am refusing your request under section 18(d) of the Act -
that the
information requested is publicly available.
The policy decisions to implement a beneficial ownership register can be found in the following
proactively released Cabinet paper: https://www.mbie.govt.nz/business-and-
employment/business/regulating-entities/supporting-the-integrity-of-the-corporate-governance-system.
