3. Average number of employees, defined by police officers and administration
operatives, tasked (instructed) to answer Personal Information requests, listed by
month commencing September 2020 to September 2024.
There are multiple teams across Police who are responsible for information requests
made under various legislation, including Official Information Act 1982, Privacy Act 2020,
and the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989. Some of these teams are also responsible for other
work that is not related to information requests. Until 2022 no teams had a separate RAT
(Resource Al ocation Target) for information request staff – the main information request
team was considered to be part of the File Management Centres until this time.
Therefore, it is not possible to provide the number of employees allocated specifically to
respond to Privacy Act requests for information.
This part of your request is refused in accordance with section 18(g) of the OIA, as the
information requested is not held by the Police and I have no grounds for believing that
the information is either held by or connected more closely with the functions of another
Department or Minister of the Crown or organisation or a local authority.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
