Dear Charlie McLean
Official Information Act request: Advice relating to He Whenua Taurikura research
centre
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 4 November
2024. You requested:
I request all advice provided to the Prime Minister… on the decision to remove funding
for He Whenua Taurikura research centre
Firstly, I wish to apologise for providing this response outside of the statutory timeframe. As a
result of human error, when this part of your request was partially transferred to the Prime
Minister, it was not identified by officials at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
(DPMC), who provide administrative support to the Prime Minister’s Office, as a request for
information.
Please accept my fulsome apologies for this oversight. DPMC has acknowledged the error
and officials have provided the Prime Minister’s Office with assurances that they wil improve
their processes to ensure requests are identified accurately and in a timely manner.
In regard to your request, we have conducted a search, and found no additional information
than what was provided to you in an earlier response to the same request from DPMC.
Therefore, I refer you the response you received from DPMC on 4 December 2024
(OIA202/25-0377 refers) for advice to the Prime Minister on the decision to remove funding
for He Whenua Taurikura research centre.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
Yours sincerely
Cameron Burrows
Chief of Staff
