May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well. Also, how many applications you
have received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies
such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and how
many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one
sent to the appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal information.”
As you are aware, on 30 October 2024 your request was transferred from the Minister’s Office to the
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act as the
information you requested is more closely connected to the functions of MBIE.
Please see below my response to your request.
Public nominations for the Building Practitioners Board Member positions were as follows:
• The position was advertised on Govt.jobs and Seek platforms
• Thirty-five applications were received
• Agreed to a shortlist of nine candidates (for three roles)
• Eight candidates were interviewed (one candidate withdrew)

MBIE is unaware how many were received from nominating agencies because candidates applied
directly through MBIE’s application system and were only informed about the opportunity by the
agencies.
A copy of the advertised Building Practitioners Board Member position description is enclosed with this
response.
Copies of the
appointment letters sent to three appointees are also enclosed with this response. Please
note that some information in these letters is withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the
privacy of natural persons.
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest
considerations in making the information available.
I trust you will find this information useful.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, or if you require any further
assistance, please contact
[email address]. You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision, in
accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely,
