Thank you for your email of 01 November 2024 to Oranga Tamariki – Ministry
for Children (Oranga Tamariki), requesting information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act).
You have requested:
How many tamariki and rangatahi in the formal care of Oranga Tamariki have
reported abuse since 1 January 2023? If any:

could this please be broken down into type of abuse and region (e.g.,
Bottom South, Wel ington and Upper South, Central etc.).
•
could this please be broken down into regions (e.g., Bot om South,
Wellington and Upper South, Central etc.).
•
how many reports of abuse were investigated by Oranga Tamariki? If any:
o
what were the outcomes (e.g., kaimahi dismissed, kaimahi under strict
supervision etc.)?
o
what are the percentages of abuse found or not found?
The consultations necessary to make a decision on this request are such that a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. For this reason, I
am extending the time limit for providing you with the information to 20 December 2025,
in accordance with section 15A(1)(b) of the Act. We wil try to respond sooner than this
date if possible.
