RE: LG24-0265 – CCTV Signs
Dear P W French,
REQUEST FOR OFFICIAL INFORMATION – RELEASE OF INFORMATION
Thank you for your request for information held by the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC). On
5 November 2024 you requested the following information under the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):
•
This request seeks clarification from the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) with
regard to apparent anomalies in its displaying of CCTV ("closed-circuit television", "video
surveillance") signage, as indicated by the following information that relates to two CCTV
cameras [refer email dated 5 November 2024 for full details].
QLDC RESPONSE
Release of information
To address your request, we consulted with the QLDC Regulatory Support Team and QLDC Property
and Infrastructure Team, who assisted in providing the following response:
The design and purpose of signage have historically varied depending on the specific use of the
cameras, whether for enforcement, safety, or monitoring of potential infringements.
We are currently in the process of updating our signage to standardise it, ensuring that there will be
a single, unified approach for all CCTV-related purposes going forward.
QLDC has reviewed the project details, but a comprehensive audit is still pending. Some signs may
require updates, and our inventory of owned signs may not be fully complete. As we identify any gaps,
we will continue to make improvements and ensure all signage meets the required standard.
We trust the above information satisfactorily answers your request.
Kind regards,
Renee
