Thank you for staying informed with us!

Big progress ahead of Christmas works

Our crew worked around the clock at Wellington Station over Labour Weekend to get a head start on the major works this Christmas. We’re taking the big leap from manual to computer-based signalling, so that trains can move in and out of the station more efficiently, especially during peak times. Follow the link below to see what the team accomplished in a jam-packed three days...

Got big plans this summer? So do we!

Metlink is operating a special summer timetable while KiwiRail makes improvements to the network, so your usual service may change.

Be sure to plan ahead and check your timetable before you travel: www.metlink.org.nz/summer

Buses will replace trains on all lines from 26 December 2024 - 12 January 2025.

The Wairarapa rail line will remain closed (and trains replaced by buses) until 9 February 2025 while we replace the track inside the Remutaka Tunnel.

Lane closures allow bridge repair (Nov to Apr)

Thanks to a Budget 2024 funding injection from the government, two bridges on the Kapiti Line are about to get some TLC, with remedial works going on from now until April. This work will mean some lane closures on the Hutt Rd and at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge. Where possible, we will be working outside of peak times to minimise disruption.

Here's an overview of what to expect:

Hutt Rd

  • Nov and Dec: 1 lane closed at a time (nights)
  • 26 Dec - 12 Jan: 1 lane closed at a time (24-hour works) PLUS occasional full closures for a maximum of 15 minutes
  • 22 Feb - late Apr: To be confirmed

Ngauranga Gorge

  • 22 Feb - late Apr: 1 lane closed at a time (nights)
