TERMINATION AND NOTIFICATION OF KIWIRAIL WORKS 
Thank  you  for  meeting  with  9(2)(a) - Privacy
  on  8  October  2024.  We  refer  to  the  Grant 
Agreement  we  have  in  place  with  you  dated  24  February  2006  for  the  clip-on  pedestrian  bridge 
attached to rail Bridge 19 on the Wairarapa Line.  We advise that there is planned maintenance for 
the bridge and replacement of life expired track components which is due to commence from 24 
February 2025. 
To ensure rail operational safety, sections of the walkway, including the walkway deck, needs to be 
completely  removed  to  enable  the  track  and  bridge  maintenance.  The  is  because  the  pedestrian 
structure is tied to the track infrastructure.  We therefore advise that the bridge will close and will 
be inaccessible to the public from Monday 24th Feb 2025. Could you please notify all affected parties, 
including  the  community,  subcontractors  and  any  other  relevant  stakeholders  of  these  access 
restrictions.  It is important that everyone complies with these restrictions to ensure their safety. 
KiwiRail’s works is expected to be completed by Monday 3rd June 2025.  
If you are intending to reinstate the bridge then it will need to be redesigned so that it will comply 
with the current standard. The bridge reconstruction will need a Grant Application to be completed 
so that it can be reviewed by our Engineering team. A new or reinstated bridge would need to be 
documented  by  way  of  a  new  Grant  Agreement.  For  completeness,  this  letter  serves  as  twelve 
months notice to terminate the current agreement (G61671) dated 24 February 2004.  
We acknowledge the inconvenience this will cause and appreciate your cooperation in advance to 
ensure the safety of everyone.
