Official Information Act request dated 13 January 2025
We refer to your email dated 13 January 2025 requesting information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act). The responses to your specific questions are set out
below.
Request One: Under the OIA please provide the total cost if any, for increasing bike
parking to 34 spaces and the previous number of spaces provided before the
increase.
Response One: In 2024, TVNZ spent $6,277.85 on new bike racks and the relocation of
existing bike racks.
Before the increase in bike parking, TVNZ provided 16 bike spaces in racks, as wel as
two bars for supporting bikes and some free-standing space. TVNZ now provides 34
bike spaces in racks and some free-standing space.
Request Two: Please provide the language guide for climate reporting that is used
by 1News journalists.
Response Two: Guidance on appropriate language for climate reporting is provided as
part of the editorial process. In addition, some guidance on language for climate
reporting is contained in the TVNZ News and Current Affairs Climate Guide. This living
document is commercially sensitive work product. It is therefore withheld on fol owing
grounds:
• Section 9(2)(b)(ii) of the Act: to protect information where the making
available of the information would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the
commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the subject of the
information; and
• Section 9(2)(i) of the Act: to enable TVNZ to carry out, without prejudice or
disadvantage, commercial activities.
Request Three: Please provide the last 3 years of volume of advertising that promoted
sustainable products and services.
Response Three: TVNZ does not classify all its advertisements by ‘genre’ (such as
sustainability) and so does not collate information in the form in which you have
requested. This aspect of your request is therefore declined in accordance with
section 18(e) of the Act.
We trust this information assists. If you are dissatisfied with this response, section 28
of the Act sets out the circumstances in which you may make a complaint to the
Ombudsman in order to seek an investigation and review.
