Fire and Emergency received multiple calls to a garage on fire at 9(2)(a) Mason Ave
Morewa, which spread to timber fence-lines then to a neighbouring garage at 9(2)(a)
Mason Ave Morewa. A FENZ 2nd alarm response, fires were extinguished with
multiple hose lines.
The initial garage, 6m x 6 m concrete floor base, timber framed construct on,
timber T & G interior lining, ply timber sheet exterior cladding and a corrugated iron
roof, divided into a separate sleepout and garage storage was totally consumed by
fire.
9(2)(a)
INFORMATION
The 2nd structure at
Mason Ave, a standalone garage 6m x 6m, concrete floor
base, timber framed, non- lined interior, metal sheeting exterior clad, corrugated
iron roofing suffered intensive damage, but the main structure remained standing.
An attached timber lean too suffered structural damage also. A large section of
timber fence-line was destroyed between the two properties.
A fire investigator was requested & responded to determine the area of origin and
cause.
Investigation confirmed the initial garage at 9(2)(a) Mason Ave was the overall area of
origin structure. This structure had an 9(2)(a)

Investigation confirmed no live electrical power was present to the garage at the
time of the incident, and several other possible causes from within the garage were
eliminated. Inspection of fire spread patterns indicated the area of origin appeared
to be on the 9(2)(a)
area side the garage. Possible causes such as a

possible candle left burning, or a portable gas cooker which had been used a few
hours earlier, did not appear to be in the probable area of origin.
Thorough inspection of the probable area of origin, no item or possible cause was
identified, including any suspicious activity, so as a result this incident is classified
as Undetermined.
