May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website.
Also, how many applications you have received from the public and how many you
have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women
etc.
May I also seek a copy of the proposed appointment letter send to the appointee,
feel free to redact any confidential information.
Further, how many people you want to recruit for this round.
The Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry) has provided a response to each part of your
request below:
1. Due to the specialist nature of this panel and eligibility requirements for panel
members relevant sector networks were utilised along with the Ministry’s website.
Nominations were advertised through the Waste Management Institute of New
Zealand (WasteMINZ) network (emails & website), dedicated communications, and
advertising on the Ministry’s website from October 2024 until nominations closed on
10 January 2025. One of the dedicated communications was an email sent on
15 October 2024, titled ‘
CSVLF Email – Join our webinar’, and this is being released
to you in full.

2. The Ministry received 23 applications from people outside of the Ministry. None were
from nominating agencies; however, three were from individuals who were employed
by local government bodies.
3. The proposed appointment letter sent to the appointees, titled ‘
CSVLF Letter of
Appointment FINAL’, is also being released to you in full.
4. Up to 14 panel members were being recruited, including Ministry staff members with
contaminated sites expertise, regional/unitary and territorial council employees, and
certified technical experts in contaminated land management.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Of ice of the Ombudsman of
my decision to withhold information relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3)
