We refer to your official information request dated 28 January 2025, asking:
Could you please provide me with the legislative requirements relating to
publishing Gazette notices for the appointments of judges and lay
members of the High Court. If there are none, please provide me with any
advice given to the Attorney-General relating to publishing Gazette
notices for the appointments of judges and lay members of the High
Court.

In respect of the first part of your request, Crown Law’s role is to provide legal
advice to the Government, but not to members of the public. You wil find that
any such legislative requirements are publicly available on
www.legislation.govt.nz, alternatively you may seek legal advice through services
such as Community Law
(communitylaw.org.nz).

In respect of the second part of your request, we have searched our databases and
cannot locate any such advice. We have therefore decided to refuse the second
part of your request pursuant to s 18(g) of the Official Information Act 1982 (
OIA).
