Thank you for your email, received on 27 February 2025, to Oranga Tamariki—
Ministry for Children (Oranga Tamariki) requesting information regarding data on
YouTube usage during work hours. Your request has been considered under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
I have addressed each of your questions below.
can staff use work computers to watch YouTube during work hours?
Oranga Tamariki staff can view YouTube on their computers during work hours for
work-related purposes. YouTube contains selected suitable content and training
material as video content that is only available via YouTube.
do you have a policy around watching YouTube during work hours?
Watching YouTube during work hours is covered by the ‘
Acceptable Use of
Technology and Services’ policy and notes “Oranga Tamariki technology, including
devices, systems, networks and related services must be used appropriately, and for
business purposes only. They must not be used in a way that contravenes the Oranga
Tamariki Code of Conduct, applicable legislation, or the values of our agency.
number of hours staff have spent on YouTube during work hours?
Oranga Tamariki does not specifically record the hours staff spend on YouTube during
work hours. As such this part of your request is refused under section 18(g) of the Act,
as the information requested is not held by Oranga Tamariki, nor is it held by another
department.
Oranga Tamariki may make the information contained in this letter available to the
public by publishing this on our website with your personal details removed.
