You may recall the OIA request we declined late last year concerning the definition of GA’s
‘infrastructure’ (attached as an aide memoire).
In late February we received a further request as follows (and in full below): documents held by
Otago University (for example emails, text messages, instant messages, teams messages, meeting
minutes, etc.) having to do with reading, evaluating, discussing, considering, and/or responding to the
following request … (ie the initial request concerning definitions).
I have collated our relevant emails and redacted all identifiers for privacy, anything out of scope, and
‘free and frank’ opinions we shared. I’ve attached this
for your review
for consultation with MBIE if you think necessary – if so, in
absence is that
something you could facilitate, please
I will extend the deadline for a response to Thursday 4 April, to allow these consultations to occur.

Sorry, too many things going on at the moment. :)
Yes, I’ve been through the redacted email chain with our MBIE contact, and they are happy for us to
proceed.
They did suggest specifically mentioning the clause in the OIA relating to redaction of “free and frank”
opinions (just to make it very clear why those blocks of text had been redacted).
