[FYI request #30514 email] Tēnā koe John
I refer to your request received on 2 March 2025, which has been considered under
the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). You requested the following information in
relation to the appointments/reappointments of Terrence ‘Mook’ Hohneck, Linda
Faulkner, and Rau Hoskins to the Māori Heritage Council:
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have
call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications
you have received from the public and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How
many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed in this
recruitment round. May I also seek a copy of the ad went out to public and the
appointment letter sent to the appointee, feel free to redact any personal
information.
The appointments of Terrence ‘Mook’ Hohneck and Linda Faulkner were made due to
two resignations from the Māori Heritage Council in early 2024. The reappointment of
Rau Hoskins was made because his term as member of the Māori Heritage Council
expired on 31 December 2024.
Appointments to the Māori Heritage Council are made by the Minister for Arts, Culture
and Heritage in accordance with the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014
and the Crown Entities Act 2004.
A public call for nominations is not required under the legislation and was not
conducted for this appointment process. Therefore, an ad was not created and
applications from the public were not received. Instead, candidates were selected from
sources such as the Manatū Taonga register of nominations, which includes members
of the public who have expressed interest in being a Crown board member;
nominations from Government nominating agencies; and nominations from caucus
and coalition party colleagues.
For this appointment process, a total of 21 candidates were longlisted for
consideration, three of which were from Government nominating agencies, and four
candidates were interviewed.
