Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
Re: Community Empowerment Unit
I refer to your email, which we received on 22 April 2016, requesting information about
Community Empowerment Unit. Our response to each of your questions is as follows:
1.
What is the organisational structure of the Community Empowerment Unit?
Please see the organisational structure chart for the Community Empowerment unit,
attached.
2.
What is the governance/management structure of the Community Empowerment
Unit?
The governance structure of Auckland Council is made up of the 20 elected councillors and
21 elected local boards. Together these elected members are responsible for the overall
governance of council.
At a day to day operational level, all units within council are managed through the Chief
Executive. The Community Empowerment unit sits within the Operations Division of council
and is managed by a lead team and manager who report up through a line to the Chief
Operating Officer and in turn to the Chief Executive.
3.
How is the unit funded?
The Community Empowerment unit is funded through normal council financial structures,
with funding being drawn primarily from rates. In addition, the unit receives some external
funding from central government to deliver contracts and philanthropic funding to specific
youth initiatives.
