OFFICIAL INFORMATION REQUEST
I refer to your official information request in your email dated 12 October 2016
regarding the survival of Enderby Rabbits.
Can you please advise what work the Department of Conservation is
undertaking to ensure the survival of the rare Enderby Rabbit species unique
to New Zealand to ensure the species does not become extinct.
The Department assisted the Rare Breeds Conservation Society of New Zealand to
retrieve 49 rabbits from Enderby Island in 1992. The society established a breeding
programme for those rabbits, and the Department has had no further involvement in
managing them.
Yours sincerely
